Stefania Pennacchio

Stefania Pennacchio was born on the 25th of September 1969 in Varese. Since childhood, she has devoted herself to poetry and sculpture, finding in both a way to express her innermost worlds. She studied at the Ceramic section of Istituto d’Arte and Accademia delle Belle Arti of Reggio Calabria. Combining both historical and contemporary references, Esedre reflects the artist’s ongoing exploration of identity and, specifically, the complex female universe in light of classical mythology, an area intimately linked to her homeland of Calabria. Pennacchio embraces the traditional Japanese technique of Raku to do so, and the results are breathtaking. As critic and journalist Philippe Daverio notes, “At this point I think we can return the Riace Warriors to the Greeks and put in their place Pennacchio’s sculptures.”
