Narrazioni Intrecciate, by Draga & Aurel

In occasion of Fuorisalone 2024 the designers Draga & Aurel enter Visionnaire’s Wunderkammer with Narrazioni Intrecciate: a game of role exchanges between art and design, where the power of colors and painterly gestures illuminates the walls guiding the immersive journey among collectible design objects.

I worked for a long time as a textile designer in fashion, and fabrics are my first love: it was natural to imagine bringing Aurel’s works onto fabric, so powerful and with kinetic force.

In a special edition, the Aries armchair is upholstered with a new woven fabric that reinterprets Aurel K. Basedow’s paintings. In the Muse screen, Aurel’s painting is composed and decomposed: the layering, dear to the artist in his creative process, is entrusted to a play of printed organza that in movement seems to reproduce the gesture of painting.

Research is a fundamental aspect of Draga & Aurel’s creative journey, and for this project, they revisit two of their iconic pieces with interweaving new materials. The Lego console is reintroduced with a marble top associated with metal, replacing the concrete used in the previous model, while the Elysium table shows contrasting geometries and refined textures. Completing the installation is the Tessa room divider: a cascade of colors that seem to dissolve among interweaving geometries, lights, and transparencies.

Draga & Aurel

Founded in 2007 in the town of Como, Italy, Draga & Aurel is a multi-disciplinary design studio that works along the spectrum of furniture, textile and interior design. Draga Obradovic began her career in the fashion industry, first working in London and Milan as a textile designer before eventually settling in Como. Aurel K. Basedow graduated from Milan’s Accademia di Belle Arti with a degree in Fine Arts, having previously trained as a carpenter and woodworker. Thanks to their sympathetic methods, combined with an artist’s approach to material and composition Draga & Aurel are widely recognized for their clever reinvention of bespoke vintage design pieces. While interior projects, like Sicily’s Dimora delle Balze and Cannavacciuolo’s Café & Bistrot in Novara, have expanded their sought after aesthetic into the realm of hospitality and lifestyle. In occasion of the 2019 Milan Design Week the design duo presented the capsule collection “Transparency Matters”, entirely fabricated by hand in their Como atelier. Later, Draga & Aurel have participated with a site-specific project to Nomad Circle, the showcase for contemporary art and collectible design, in the 2019 edition in Venice and in the 2020 in St. Moritz.
